Joachim Rücker

Former UN- Ambassador

Joachim Rücker studied Economics at the Albert – Ludwig University Freiburg and completed his studies with a degree and a PhD. After various postings in the Foreign Service in Bonn, Detroit, Dar es Salaam and Vienna, he returned to German as a Foreign Policy Advisor to the Social Democratic Party of Germany’s parliamentary group in the Deutsche Bundestag. From 1993 till 2001, Mr. Rücker was major of Sindelfingen, but later returned to Berlin as Head of Finance and Budget at the Federal Foreign Officen.

As Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, he served in Pristina as General and Head of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo. From 2012 to 2014, Joachim Rücker had been the Amabssador and Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Office of the United Nations and to the other International Organizations in Geneva, while being President of the UN Human Right Council in 2015. Up until 2017, Mr. Rücker was a Special Representative of the Federal Government for the Middle East Stability Partnership.
